Reed Roof Projects – April and May

This spring, we completed several reed roofing projects across southern Sweden.
One of the highlights was a project in Båstad on a historic house dating back to the 1800s. Originally built with a straw roof, the traditional roof structure was still visible, revealing its heritage. We have now restored it with a new reed roof, bringing it back to its former charm in the peaceful setting among beech trees.
Another project was in Våxtorp, involving a historic house that had been moved from Örkelljunga. This house also originally had a straw roof, and some of the original structural details were still intact. We used the traditional sewing method with metal wire for the thatching. We also completed several roof ridges on this property.
We also carried out reed roof repair work near Laholm, in the village of Ysby. This included maintenance and minor repairs on a roof we originally thatched in 2018.
Another project took place at Jonsgården, a historical museum property. There, we restored nearly 90 meters of roof ridges and replaced some of the ridge timbers.
A big thank you to my professional team, Kristaps and Olle, for their excellent work.
